Chopped Eggs and Onions

Jewish cooking is buoyed by tradition and history. Although no kugel recipe will ever be as good as your Bubbeh's, you can start with some chopped onions, then add our Free Range Chicken Eggs  while recalling her wise sayings:

Put the onions and oil in a large frying pan and fry for about 20 minutes on a medium to high heat, until golden brown and very soft. Meanwhile, boil the eggs for 8 minutes until hard-boiled. Remove the pan from the heat, drain and then cover the eggs with cold water. When just cool enough to handle, peel the eggs and grate into a large bowl using the coarse side of a grater. Spoon the onions onto the egg, leaving most of the oil in the pan. Season generously with salt and pepper, and combine the onions and egg with your hands or a wooden spoon, tasting as you go.  The mixture should stick together if pressed with your hand while contemplating  these wise sayings:

  1. However sweet love may be, you can't make a stew out of it.
  2. Adam was the first lucky man as he had no mother-in-law.
  3. If a problem can be solved with money, then it's not a problem but a cost.
  4. God gave man two ears and one mouth, so listen more and talk less.
  5. Choosing between two evils, a pessimist picks both.
  6. Being gray of hair means you're simply old, not wise.
  7. God cannot be everywhere at once, that's why He created mothers.
  8. Be not sweet, or else you'll be eaten. Be not bitter, or else you'll be spat out.
  9. Fear a goat in front of you, a horse behind you, and a fool all around.
  10. It's better to die of laughter than of fear.
  11. Knowledge does not take much space.
  12. If charity was worth nothing, everyone would be philanthropists.
