Nest Eggs

A hen will lay an egg anywhere she feels safe. For a long time we kept our chickens in a run due to coyotes in the area. At some point we decided to let them out to roam the property. The longer they were out, the fewer eggs we found in their nesting boxes. Here's some we found on the range.

  1. A “nest egg” generally refers to retirement accounts. ... There's no single correct amount to save for retirement. For example, a $500,000 nest egg may be a good amount, but some retirees may be able to live on less than that. Others may need more than that, depending on where they live and how many dependents they have.

  2. Once you're retired and are no longer counting on earned income to live on and supplement your nest egg, you're done with disability insurance. At that point, though, the need for long-term care insurance - which protects you from spending that nest egg too fast - takes over.--Jean Chatzky

  3. If you're a retail investor, you have set aside some of your hard-earned money for investment or to create a nest egg, for your kids or family.--Vito Fossella

  4. I don't have any blindness when it comes to my money. As an actor, you can get distracted by your work. I do keep an eye on my nest egg, if you will.--Judd Nelson

  5. It's just wrong to work your whole life to build up a nest egg, build your own business - you pass away, and Uncle Sam can swoop in and take away nearly half of everything you've earned. Can you imagine that? Having to sell off most of your land just to keep it from the government, just to save the house.--Kevin Brady

  6. Younger workers should have more freedom to build their retirement nest egg.--Gresham Barrett

  7. Nobody expects to trust his body overmuch after the age of fifty.--Alexander Hamilton

  8. Your mortgage shouldn't have been treated as a wager - it should be a way to provide a home and financial stability for you and your family.--Lisa Madigan

  9. Americans should be able to enjoy a secure retirement after a lifetime of hard work. But too many Americans reach retirement without enough savings to supplement their Social Security benefits.--Tom Perez

  10. Goodness is the only investment that never fails.--Henry David Thoreau

  11. Life would be infinitely happier if we could only be born at the age of eighty and gradually approach eighteen.--Mark Twain

  12. Always stay in charge of your nest egg. Beware of anyone who suggests investing your money into something you don’t understand or who urges that you leave everything in his or her hands.--NASSA
